Our Mission

The mission of the Southwest Native American Foundation is to provide the students of Native American tribes in the Southwestern U.S. with the opportunity of higher education by offering scholarships to outstanding high school students and enrolled university students. We believe that everyone—regardless of their background or financial situation—should have this opportunity.

Scholarships for Indigenous Students

Statistics consistently show that many talented Native American students in the U.S. Southwest choose not to continue their education due to a lack of funds, resources, or both. This year (2022) marks eighteen years of challenging those statistics by creating more opportunities for educational success. In the last 18 years, we have awarded over $500,000 in scholarships to more than 400 students.

These 400+ scholarship recipients can testify to the fact that financial support greatly increases indigenous students’ chances of earning a university degree. Their stories matter. Their education matters. That’s why we do what we do.

Higher Education for All

The Southwest Native American Foundation was founded to help change a reality that we found unsettling. Native American students across the continent are choosing not to continue their education because they do not have access to the resources they need. Here at SWNAF, we hope to change that reality.
We believe that no one—especially indigenous students—should be barred from higher education because they don't have enough money. You can help us further our mission when you give to SWNAF today.

SWNAF School Grants: For Native Students in Every Classroom

Schools that serve marginalized communities are traditionally underfunded. Under-resourced schools are typically unable to serve their students as well as those in more affluent areas. The Southwest Native American Foundation hopes to provide greater resources to Native students of all ages.

Although this is a systemic issue that must be solved at an institutional level, the Southwest Native American Foundation also hopes to help. If you are an educator serving Native American students, SWNAF encourages you to apply for a school grant.
